The Welter Shelter Lab
Welter shelter is an all-weather outerwear brand; designed in Amsterdam. Our jackets represent the best of both worlds: warmth and protection provided by technical superiority, coupled with an undeniable stylish exterior and excellent comfort. Welter Shelter was born in the midst of a November storm. When the weather gods released their fury on a recently bought, five-hundred-euro woolen winter coat and defeated it in minutes. The owner was left cold and soaked to the bone. After cursing his fate and choice of apparel, he's left with a striking conclusion: this can be done better. And thus, Welter Shelter was born.
Our outerwear has an average water column of 10.000 mm, which means it can bear as much as 10 liters of water at any given time. We couple this with a breathability that averages 5000-8000 grms per 24 hours, which is ideal for active city performance, whether you are cycling or walking. Our insulation keeps you warm and comfortable to -10C.
Our insulation is developed in close cooperation with Meida®, a superior insulation program that keeps you warm whilst remaining thin, flexible and breathable. The secret in the Meida® insulation is the art of layering. One layer of thousands of polyethylene micro-fibers pressed on a square millimeter, equals the warmth of a woolen sweater.
Most of our jackets have a 150grms Meida® insulation, equaling 5 woolen sweaters; with a thickness of only 0,8 centimeters.
• Lighter and thinner than down
• Environmentally friendly
• Does not absorb any water (water = cooling)
• 50grm/m2 insulates better than 2 woolen sweaters
• 150grm/m2 for temperatures down to -15°c
